Bobby Charles: Guestbook

Being a person who is all about lyrics and vocals in a song, I usually don’t have patience for instrumental music, but this is not the case with Bobby Charles’ “Forever and a Day.”
“Forever and a Day” is a fine collection of relaxing, but never sleepy, melodies led by Bobby Charles adept guitar work and artfully accompanied by skilled musicians on various instruments.
The songs manage to elicit different emotions, which is not always easy to accomplish in an instrumental song. A couple of the songs like “Prairie Dawg Companion” and “Puerto Angel” are so aptly named because of the images they bring to mind, with the help of different instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, and trumpet, that it makes you wonder… what came first, the song or the song title? Little touches like the fitting use of a rain stick on “October Rain” and wind chimes on “Morning Dance” also add to the overall finished production.
The majority of the songs, like “Fly Away Jack” are upbeat and make you want to hum along, or they just take you to a happy place in your mind. My personal favorite is “Morning Dance.” Again, it’s appropriately named because it’s a pleasant, happy, melody that makes you want to do a little dance. I’m thinking if I woke up to this in the morning instead of my alarm clock, I would have a much easier time getting out of bed.
All in all, I think this c.d. is a great c.d. to start your day with, to play after the end of a hard day, or maybe just to play on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
